Returns Policy

You may return most new, unopened items within 28 days of delivery for store credit. Items may be tried on indoors and still be eligible for return, but once they have been worn outdoors they are not eligible for return. We reserve the rights to refuse a refund, credit, or exchange for items that are not in a re-sellable condition - regardless of whether the item was worn or not.

We offer free returns and exchanges for the United States, on items that are not marked clearance or final sale.

You may also contact us by email (info@darkcottage.com) with your order number and details of your return, and we will provide you with a pre-paid return label. If you choose to use and pay for a different shipping method, we do not reimburse the cost of shipping. 

The items not eligible for free returns and exchanges will be discounted in a clearance category and/or have a note in the product description specifying that it is clearance/final sale.  

If you are exchanging an item and are located in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, we will ship out the new item at no extra cost to you once we receive the original item back and confirm it is in re-sellable condition.

After you receive your exchange, if you decide you need to exchange or return a second time, you will be responsible for return shipping as long as the reason for the return/exchange is not a result of our error (such as an incorrect or defective item). 

If it is determined that the item you returned to us is ineligible for return or not in re-sellable condition, we will ship the item back to you and no refund will be issued. Items not in re-sellable condition includes damage such as: stains, unpleasant odor, pet hair, holes/rips/tears/scratches, discoloration, etc. This does not include product defects. If you receive an item that is defective, incorrect, or is a result of our error, it is eligible for free return or exchange in the contiguous 48 US states. 

You should expect to receive your store credit/refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive credit/refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).

If you need to return an item, please fill out the return card included with your order with your order number, reason for return, and how you would like the return handled (store credit, exchange, or replacement).Then, if you are within the United States, you may use our self-service returns portal to print your own return label, or contact us with your order number and details about the product you would like to return. We will respond within 2 business days with a pre-paid return label (if you qualify for free returns) and details on how to return your order. If you do not qualify for free returns, you may ship the item back to us using your preferred shipping method. Our address is 2312 W Cary St, Richmond, VA 23220 USA. 

Store Credit Policy

Returns will be automatically given store credit or an exchange if requested. Refunds are only made on a case-by-case basis. 

Shipping

In stock items can be expected to ship within 5 business days. We offer Free Shipping for orders over $100 that are being shipped to customers located in United States. Standard Flat Rate Shipping is $8 and typically takes 3-4 business days to most locations in the contiguous 48 US states, though sometimes can take longer and USPS does not guarantee time estimates. We offer 2-Day Shipping for $25 through either USPS Priority 2-Day or UPS 2nd Day Air. Shipping days account for business days only (Monday-Friday) and though some services offer Saturday delivery, we cannot guarantee it.

We can ship to any countries served by USPS and UPS. Shipping to international locations typically takes around 10-14 business days, though time estimates through USPS are not guaranteed. International Customs reserves the right to hold any package for any reason for up to 45 days. Customs fees and taxes cannot be predicted in advance, the customer is responsible for any fees the shipment of their package may incur. The best way to predict the cost of these fees is to contact one’s local Customs office and post office.
